For fifteen years the primary subjects of my photography were biological specimens collected for scientific study.  I have tried to visually represent the elusive, mysterious, and ephemeral elements that are inherent in the specimens. In 2000 I began digital printmaking—for me, a hybrid medium of painting, printmaking and photography that allows me to combine the attributes of graphic media such as paint and drawing materials with photographic rendering.

Propelled by an initial collaboration for “The Poetic Dialogue Project”, I have been working with poets to create visual poetry pieces for the past two years.  I find this cross-disciplinary collaboration immensely engaging. It is intellectually and creatively challenging.  It is a transformative process that is moving me into new conceptual and visual territory.  My intention in this work is to visually integrate text and image so that each illuminates and expands the other and an equivalency is created between them.
